Bedford County Adopts Regional Comprehensive Plan

The Bedford County Commissioners adopted “Alleghenies Ahead” – the 10-year update to the County’s Comprehensive Plan—on July 17, 2018. The Plan was prepared jointly with the five other counties in the Southcentral planning region, including Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset. It is the largest single Comprehensive Plan ever prepared in the Commonwealth, and was sponsored by the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission. Alleghenies Ahead is an implementable plan, meaning that it focuses on discrete, implementable activities and planning projects. The Bedford County Action Plan concentrates on five areas:

  • Broadband and Cell Service
  • Collaboration and Coordination
  • Business and Workforce Development
  • Recreational Amenities and Natural Assets
  • Public Health and Safety

Implementation of the Plan will begin immediately. Please contact the Planning Commission office at (814)-623-4827, or, for more information
